Houston, YOU Have a Problem!

One of the Lord’s strategies is to sit back and let Satan overplay his hand. Looks like that happened in Houston, Texas, last week.

Mayor Annise Parker crossed what some are calling a “bold red line.” In a dispute over a ballot item, city attorneys threatened 5 local pastors with subpoenas if they did not turn over all their sermons, speeches and communications such a emails and letters to their congregations related to the lawsuit. This attack on free speech and religious freedom brought immediate outrage from church leaders, Christian bloggers, conservative media and Christian attorneys dedicated to protecting these freedoms.

But, these attacks do not come “out of the blue.” The situation had been building since the mid nineties when Parker, an open lesbian, was elected to Houston city council. Later, she was elected city controller and finally, in 2009, to mayor. Twice more, in 2011 and 2013, reelected as mayor.

The current uproar started with an “equal rights” ordinance passed by the city including homosexuals (gays) and providing penalties for “discrimination” against sexual “orientation.” The current definition of “gay” persons includes “transgenders,” those who claim to be a gender other than how they were born. Thus, if a “biological man” fancies himself a woman, he is free to choose to use the women’s restrooms, gym showers and segregated swimming areas. In one recent incident in another city, a nude man was found lounging in front of young girls in a ladies-only gym. Schools, colleges, government and businesses nationwide are struggling over which bathroom “transgenders” are allowed to use.

In Houston, a coalition of about 400 pastors and other leaders circulated a petition to put the equal rights ordinance, dubbed the “bathroom bill,” on the next ballot and claim to have gathered over 50,000 signatures. Only about 17,000 valid names were needed to make the ballot, but the city invalidated the petition for supposed “irregularities,” and threw it out.

The coalition sued the city, and city attorneys responded by demanding copies of sermons, speeches, blogs, emails, etc. for evidence in the lawsuit. At present, it is a standoff, another chapter in the cosmic struggle between good and evil.

So, what’s a Bible-believing soul winner to do? We must shine the light of the truth of the gospel on the dark confusion. A train was made to travel well when it runs on the track. When it leaves the track and goes into the dirt, it makes a huge mess.

America, like most of the rest of the world, is in a huge mess —because it is off track. The Bible speaks repeatedly about “the way.” Jesus said He was the Way. Solomon discovered that: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

At one point in Israel’s history, the prophet Jeremiah told them: “Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.” At the time it related to a battle strategy but it sums up the Creator’s design for mankind. (See Jeremiah 21:8.)

God made it clear that the “gay way” was an abomination; something that corrupts the nation. Several Chick tracts describe how this corruption destroys families, God’s foundation for His blessing. God married Adam and Eve and said that it was good; any other type of sexual arrangement jumps the track into a dirty mess.

Houston’s mess is only an extreme of what is going on all over the country. Chick tracts are one of the easiest ways to shower gospel truth on a neighborhood —or nation. Type “homosexuality” into the search field above for a wealth of information on the subject.
