A full pardon was given to him. But he didn’t believe it was real! As a result, he refused the pardon and paid the ultimate price.
It is just like that with us. We are sinners. “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). We all deserve death and hell and the lake of fire. Is there no way out? Yes, there is one way — only one way.
Jesus Christ, God the Father’s only begotten Son, paid the full price for our sins by shedding His blood on the cross. As a result, He paid for a full pardon for all our sins! Praise God! How awe-inspiring!
But that full pardon is only in force if we believe it is real, and place our faith in Jesus and His shed blood. That is the message of this very direct tract, I Beg Your Pardon! It shows the unsaved their condition and the only way out of eternal punishment. More importantly, it shows them their need to believe on Christ and receive that pardon.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (John 1:12).
By placing I Beg Your Pardon into their hand, we are showing them both the one way out through faith in Christ, as well as the urgency of their believing and receiving God’s pardon before it is too late.
May God bless us all as we act as Christ’s ambassadors and send this message of pardon into all the world. And we have to live in a way that they believe it is real.
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God,” (2 Corinthians 5:20).
