David W. Daniels Discusses

a Popular Myth About the KJB

You’ve probably heard this before:

“The King James Bible is just too difficult to read.”

That claim has been repeated for decades—and used to justify the flood of modern Bible versions.

But is it actually true?

David W. Daniels dug into the facts and the results might surprise you—even if you're already a fan of the KJV.

📊 Let’s Look at the Numbers

  • The KJV uses around 8,000 words in total.
  • Some estimates go as high as 12,000, but that includes similar word forms like:
    • love, loveth, lovest
  • Remove proper names, animals, and measurements (about 2,760 words), and you're left with about 5,200 unique words
  • Of those 5,200 words in the KJV, only about 600 are unfamiliar to a 5th grader.

That’s roughly the same as a 5th grade history book—not nearly as hard as people think.

🗣 What About Thee and Thou?

Sure, these words sound old-fashioned, but they actually add precision that modern English lacks.

  • Thee” and “Thou” = singular
  • Ye” = plural

That’s helpful! When Jesus says:

  • “I say unto thee” — He’s talking to one person.
  • Ye have heard it said” — He’s speaking to a group.

So the KJV’s style actually brings clarity—not confusion.

🧒 Even Kids Can Learn It

Kids today easily pick up complex language from games, videos, and apps. With just a little help, they can adjust to the KJV's vocabulary surprisingly fast.

David Daniels saw this with his own children during family Bible readings. It doesn’t take long for young readers to get comfortable with the style.

🚫 So What’s the Real Problem?

It’s not that the KJV is too hard to read. It’s that Satan wants people to doubt God’s words

He’s been doing this since he said “Yea, hath God said…?” in the Garden of Eden. Today, he says, "You can’t read the KJV. It's too hard. You need an updated version.”

📖 Why We Still Stand by the KJV

At Chick Publications, we believe God’s promise to preserve His words means every word—not just the general message.
