The Dirty Little Secret in Your Bible
Hi friend,
Did you know the introduction of a Bible — especially a King James Bible — can contain things that directly challenge your trust in God’s Word?
Most people skip those pages. But publishers today are quietly using introductions and footnotes to plant doubt in the minds of Bible readers — often without changing a single verse.
Here’s what’s really going on.
📖 It Started with a Reprint of the 1611 King James
In the early 2000s, Thomas Nelson reprinted the 1611 King James Bible using easy-to-read Roman type. It was a faithful reproduction — word for word, letter for letter.
But in 2010, as the 400th anniversary of the King James approached, something changed. Publishers began releasing commemorative editions of the 1611… and quietly added something new:
A "Publisher’s Preface" written by a modern Bible scholar.
That’s where the trouble begins.
🧠 "Advances in Scholarship" and the Oldest Trick in the Book
Right away, the introduction frames the King James Bible as outdated, saying newer translations were needed because of:
“…changes in the common language and advances in biblical scholarship.”
Then it praises Westcott and Hort’s Greek New Testament — the text behind many modern Bible versions — for using older manuscripts than Erasmus, whose Greek New Testament was used by the King James translators.
The assumption?
Older Manuscripts = Better.
Newer Translations = More accurate.
But that argument falls apart. The copies Jesus read in the synagogue were copies of copies — yet He trusted them as Scripture, because God promised to preserve His words, not just inspire them.
📉 Subtle Doubt, Slipped into the KJV
The introduction doesn’t stop with praise for new scholarship. It says:
“No major doctrine of the church is lost due to variations between these manuscripts and those available to the KJV translators.”
That’s not true. Doctrines like the Trinity, the deity of Christ, and salvation are affected in many modern versions — I've made over 100 videos showing exactly how!
It also admits that newer versions led to:
“…a flood of new Bible translations in the twentieth century.”
That’s their word — “flood.” In Revelation 12:15, we’re told the serpent sent out a flood to try to carry away the woman. Could this flood of versions be part of that same tactic — to drown out God’s preserved words?
📦 Trojan Horse Bibles?
The intro goes on to praise many modern translations, including:
Even Catholic translations like the Jerusalem Bible and the New American Bible are called:
“Fine Roman Catholic translations.”
All of this is tucked into the introduction of a King James Bible — giving readers the impression that maybe the King James is just one option among many.
So who wrote this introduction?
John R. Kohlenberger III — a scholar deeply involved with the NIV and its 2011 edition, which was positioned as a modern replacement for the KJV.
That’s like asking a Pepsi executive to write the introduction to a Coca-Cola history book.
🧭 Four Key Takeaways
Here are four simple reminders every Bible reader should keep in mind:
1️⃣ Always read the introduction.
It may tell you more about the publisher’s agenda than the Bible itself.
2️⃣ God got it right the first time.
If God preserved His words, we don’t need newer "updates" based on questionable manuscripts.
3️⃣ Trust the King James text — not the notes.
The verses are God’s words. The footnotes and prefaces are man’s.
4️⃣ Don’t trade God’s words for man’s opinions.
Stick with the Bible God has used and preserved for centuries — the King James.
“Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
(Psalm 119:89)
There’s a quiet effort to steer readers away from trusting the King James Bible — not by removing verses, but by slipping in notes and introductions that cast doubt.
Don’t fall for it.
Stick with the words God preserved.

Learn together!
This unique five-lesson Bible study workbook builds faith in God's Word, the King James Bible. Great for home groups, Sunday School classes, and new converts.
"A GREAT study!"
"A GREAT study in five simple lessons to focus on what the Bible (KJV) says about itself. The student actually has to open their Bible to find the answers, with very little, but thorough explanation from the author. I think every Jr. high, high schooler, young adult class, new believers’ class, and church congregation should be exposed to the timeless TRUTH of God’s Word."
