Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we enter trick-or-treat season, if you are like me, we want to give the children a tract that makes them think. But we also want the parents to want to give the tract to their young one. What better way than to talk about a lesson that every loving parent wants his or her child to learn: standing up to peer pressure?

The Bible says, “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil…” (Exodus 23:2). And God inspired wise King Solomon to write, “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.” (Proverbs 1:10).

Joseph of Arimathea was a secret follower of Christ. He did not agree with his friends who wanted to kill Jesus, but he didn’t speak up, either. And yet, the scripture records that in the end, he did the right thing.

He gave his own expensive tomb (only needed for three days) for the Lord Jesus Christ’s use. He boldly asked Pilate for permission to care for Christ’s body even in the face of his friends. Thus Joseph fulfilled the prophecy: “And he [the Lord Jesus] made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death…” (Isaiah 53:9).

In the tract, But Everyone Does It, little Ryan faces peer pressure as only a kid could. His mom told him to stick with his friends as they rode to the park to play.

But his friends wanted to ride through a forbidden field, where there were some great jumps! Should Ryan stick with his friends, and go into the forbidden field, or should he do what is right, and not go in, and be left all alone?

Of course, Ryan falls to the peer pressure (didn’t most of us at one time or another?) and soon learns valuable lessons. We should not succumb to peer pressure. Sometimes things are forbidden for our protection, not to stop our fun. And we need to do the right thing, and place our trust in Jesus who died for us.

May God bless you as you pass out this tract made just for children, but which adults will enjoy, even the unsaved, to teach a valuable lesson that we all want our kids to learn: obeying those in authority, especially God, is the right thing to do.
