Gospel Tracts Reach Hundreds at Oregon Renaissance Fair

An unusual outreach opportunity at the Oregon Renaissance Fair turned into a powerful reminder that people are still willing to receive the Gospel—even in unexpected places.

When Brad and his wife found out that the theme of the fair was “The Fool,” they immediately knew what they wanted to do. They armed themselves with 1,000 copies of Chick’s The Fool and began distributing them to those attending the event. In just one hour, they gave them all out as fairgoers streamed through the gates.

Many Positive Responses

Instead of experiencing hostility, fairgoers were enthusiastic.

“One man came up to me just to shake my hand,” Brad recalls. “He thanked me for being there and said it warmed his heart to see Gospel tracts being handed out.”

Others immediately recognized the familiar Chick tract format.

“Oh, it’s a Chick tract—these are highly collectible!” one attendee told the people with him.

Another woman excitedly responded, “Fantastic! A Chick tract! I haven’t seen one of these since I was in college.”

Many recipients began reading the tracts immediately as they walked into the event. One woman even gathered the attention of her group and dramatically read the tract aloud while a friend turned the pages for her. A group of ten people listened intently as the story unfolded.

Brad and his wife didn’t get to see the group’s reaction to the tract’s Gospel presentation revealing Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation, “but,” he chuckled, “I imagine it really surprised them.”

A few attendees rejected the tracts outright, brusquely handing them back with rude comments. But moments like that serve as reminders that every person still needs the Gospel message.

Brad and his wife also believe that even rejection can become part of the process God uses to convict hearts and draw people toward the truth.

“Each time they refuse Jesus,” Brad said, “their heart might move one step closer to accepting Him.”

By the end of the hour, every Chick tract had been distributed.

“What could be better or more fulfilling,” he asked, “than passing out God’s Word to people who desperately need Him?”

Opportunities Abound

Opportunities to witness are everywhere. Whether at fairs, festivals, parks, campuses, or everyday errands, people are often more willing to take a Gospel tract than many Christians realize. A simple tract can spark conversations, plant seeds, stir memories, and point someone to Jesus Christ long after the encounter is over.

In a culture filled with distraction and confusion, faithful believers still have open doors to share the truth. One hour, 1,000 tracts, and countless lives touched is a reminder that God can use even the simplest act of obedience to spread the Gospel.

We don’t need a pulpit or a large platform to make an eternal impact. Sometimes all it takes is a little creativity and a willing heart to get a Gospel tract placed into someone’s hands.
