Recently, a customer wrote to us and shared how she plans to get tracts into the hands of her community. It’s a creative concept! We loved it and we think you will, too!

Summer is the time of yard sales, but for most of us, we’re focused on the to-dos of display tables, price tags, and keeping an eye on inventory to make sure it doesn’t magically walk away. But for Rhonda, she sees her yard sale as an opportunity to make an eternal difference.

During her 2-day garage sale, she’s featuring a “free gift” table in addition to tables of wares and household goods for purchase. On the special table, she’ll set up a nice display rack with a sign that reads “Free Gift!” The rack will display a wide variety of Chick tracts so people browsing can choose a tract to take home, free of charge. Other books and materials, including works by Christian author Mark Cahill, will also be featured on the free gift table.

By offering free tracts during a community-oriented event everyone is familiar with, the gospel is made immediately accessible. The “Free Gift” sign entices browsers to take a tract home and read the story. There’s no pressure, no conversation required—just an opportunity to give out the gospel during the flow of ordinary community life.

Neighbors may come for the yard sale, but thanks to Rhonda, they can leave with something eternally valuable.

Rhonda also shared how she uses marketplace meetups as another opportunity to get out Chick tracts. On one occasion, a simple buy-and-sell exchange unfolded in a far more personal way.

A sale arranged online led to a brief in-person meetup in the rain. The interaction started out quick and ordinary—the kind of moment that usually passes without thought. Then, as she always does, Rhonda handed the customer a Chick tract along with her purchase.

What followed was unexpected. The woman teared up and shared that she had lost her brother earlier that week. The grief was still fresh, still close to the surface. Instead of a brief goodbye, Rhonda was able to show compassion, gave her a hug, and asked God to comfort her during such a difficult time.

While most of the time we think of handing tracts out in public places or going door-to-door, creative ideas like this give us even more opportunity to share the gospel. Garage sale tables and marketplace meetups become two more places where we have the incredible opportunity to help change a person’s life—and eternity.

As Rhonda said, “Only in eternity will we fully know the fruit of these good works God has prepared for us to do in thankfulness for His amazing free gift of salvation.”

We may never know what happens to a person after we hand them a tract. Even if we see them reading it as they walk away, the result is rarely immediate. But there will be a day when we stand before the throne and every action we’ve taken to share the love of God will be revealed.

You might be surprised by the line of people you have waiting to talk to you and thank you for handing them a Chick tract. It only takes a few seconds and maybe a dash of creativity, to get the gospel out. Because as another customer said, “Chick tracts get read!”
