Sometimes we need to get a little creative to share the Gospel. This past Halloween, one husband and wife duo decided to do exactly that.
Rainier and his wife, Cindy, discovered just how much joy comes from stepping outside their comfort zone and finding new ways to reach people with the Good News.
Cindy made up 100 goodie bags—each with a full candy bar, the “Little Ghost” Bible tract, a few crayons, and a church invite that said, “We’re Saving a Seat for You!” When Halloween night came, they were excited and ready to go!
There was only one problem: they live in a fourplex, and their upstairs unit wasn’t exactly trick-or-treater friendly. The front faces a busy avenue, and the back is a dark alley—neither very inviting. After their original plan of setting up at their brother and sister-in-law’s home was cancelled due to illness, they knew they had to get creative.
After praying about it, they decided to do something different. Since their neighborhood couldn’t come to them, they’d go to their neighborhood. They packed up their 3-year-old “princess” and their 1-year-old “pink owl,” loaded the stroller with 100 baggies, and hit the streets.
As they went up and down cul-de-sacs, they greeted families with a cheerful “Happy Halloween!” and handed them a baggie. They told each family that they were practicing generosity and had plenty to share. Their 3-year-old especially loved it—walking with her arms full of baggies, joyfully saying “Happy Haweeeen!” to everyone she met.
By the end of the night, every single bag was gone.
“It was such a wonderful family memory,” Rainier wrote. “We passed out 100 baggies! And it was all thanks to this amazing ministry that we got to be a part of the Gospel mission this year! Lord willing, we plan to up the ante by passing out 150 or 200 [next year]. Glory to God and Jesus be praised!”
