In his famous book "1984", George Orwell warned of a future where the government controls people through language: simplify language, simplify minds. Confuse the language, confuse the truth.
That’s exactly what’s happening today with the redefinition and misuse of our common language. Words are being twisted to change their meaning and blur reality. Take “Love,” “Hate,” “Truth,” “Transgender,” “Liberal,” and “Conservative”—just a few key examples.
“Love.” I might say, “I love lasagna!” and “I love my wife!” Which do you think I truly love more? Unless you’re Garfield, you know the answer. I enjoy lasagna, but I love my wife. I wouldn’t die for lasagna. Using one word for wildly different meanings makes real comparisons harder to make.
“Hate.” Someone could say, “I hate humidity” or that something is a “hate crime.” They mean two very different things. And even more devious, if you say something that another person disagrees with, it could be considered “hate speech”—a phrase weaponized to silence anyone who disagrees.
“Transgender” is a word that gets used in place of “male” or “female” by many people even while they demand the rights that belong to a male or female. A predator can dress as a woman, call himself “Trans,” and enter women’s bathrooms to harm little girls. “There’s no proof this happens,” some say—forgetting that 63% of sexual assaults go unreported. See how language fuels the problem?
“Conservative” vs “Liberal,” terms that now divide the United States, oversimplifying someone’s beliefs and character. How often do we judge brothers in Christ by their political votes, asking, “Are you even Christian?” This oversimplification is Satan’s tool to divide and distract us from the mission to save souls. It all starts with language.
“Truth.” “What is truth?” Pontius Pilate once asked. I get asked the same question by people today. And if I tell someone that “my truth” is the same as THE Truth, people become offended. The majority of America now believes there is no objective truth, that “truth” is whatever each person decides it is. These people have been fed a watered-down definition that says “you create your own reality” and “morality is a choice.” These ideas are based on a foundation of confused, diluted language—far from God’s pure truth.
God promises during his future reign that he will “turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.” (Zephaniah 3:9) Until then, we must fight the flood of diluted “truth” with the pure, preserved truth of God.
The enemy is working overtime to spread lies— “his truth.” We must work overtime to spread THE TRUTH. Satan controls Hollywood and social media, but he has no hold on Chick Publications or the Chick tracts we produce. TVs at gas pumps may distract people, but it’s the Chick tracts that someone puts there that go home with them.
The enemy is driving us toward an Orwellian future that paves the way for the Antichrist. ‘Likes’ on Jesus memes won’t save souls. We need to share the LOVE of Jesus—one soul, one share, one tract at a time. In this way, we will spread the Truth, share hope, and help people to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
