Israel Needs the Church to Stand Up

According to the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic incidents in the U.S. hit an all-time high in 2024, with over 9,300 cases of harassment, vandalism, and violence—many directly tied to hostility toward Israel in the wake of October 7th. That includes nearly 1,700 incidents on college campuses, a staggering 84% increase from the previous year.

The trend is mirrored globally: antisemitism has surged over 340% in two years, from France to Australia to South Africa. Synagogues have been defaced. Jewish businesses looted. Bomb threats made against schools and community centers.

For American Jews, the fear is also real and growing. More than three-quarters say they feel less safe in public as Jews. One-third report having experienced antisemitism in the past year alone.

A New Kind of Witness

While antisemitic slogans echo on campuses and city streets, a different sound filled the Gaylord Convention Center in Maryland earlier this summer: voices of unapologetic Christian love for Israel and the Jewish people.

At its 20th annual summit, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) brought together thousands of pastors, students, and every-day believers for one reason: to stand in visible, vocal support of God’s people.

This year’s summit was focused on encouraging commitment to Israel and visible actions that match biblical theology. One speaker put it simply: We support Israel because our faith calls us to stand with the people of God, especially when they’re under threat.”

Thousands rose to their feet in response—cheering, worshiping, waving Israeli flags. This is what the media doesn’t show: the Church standing boldly with Israel, pushing back against lies, hatred, and violence with truth and love.

Clarity in an Age of Cowardice

While other institutions muddy their messaging with watered-down language and half-hearted commitment, CUFI is known for its clarity. As Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon put it: “You don’t hear the “ifs” and the “buts” [in CUFI’s support of Israel].”

At this year’s summit, Jewish attendees spoke openly of the betrayal they’ve felt since October 7 —from universities, progressive coalitions, and even once-friendly institutions. When they walked into CUFI and saw Christians showing up to declare God’s love for the nation of Israel, many were moved to tears. Some saw a glimpse of Gospel love in action for the first time.

Over 500 students also attended this year’s CUFI summit. Many of them are on the frontlines, pushing back campus hostility toward Jews and Israel. They were equipped with resources and training to go back to their schools as advocates. “Jewish students are scared on campus,” said Arianna-Rosie Bourgoin, a student at Texas Wesleyan. “As a Christian, I’m their ally.”

It’s Time to Stand

The Church must be clear. We stand with Israel—not as a trend, but as a testimony. We stand with the Jewish people because we believe the Bible, we love the God of Israel, and we believe His promises still stand.

We have a unique opportunity to love the Jewish people by standing with them, and by sharing the one thing they need most —the gospel. Even something as simple as passing out a tract can make all the difference in a person’s life. While the media and the world are focused on hating this people God loves so greatly, let’s do our part to show them His love.

Jack Chick’s tract, Love the Jewish People is a perfect example of a tract to hand out to Jewish friends, neighbors, and strangers you meet along the way.

But that isn’t enough. The attitude of all Americans toward Israel must be addressed. They need to be made aware that America’s future as a nation will be shaped by how America treats Israel. John McTernan gave us a clear warning of this in his book, As America Has Done to Israel. Everyone needs to read this.
