Every October, store shelves fill with witches, ghosts, fortune telling kits, tarot cards, and other symbols of the occult. It’s the most popular time of the year for witches and occultists. However, for one woman who made a living reading tarot cards, Halloween will be different this year.

Alexandra Ashcroft used to read tarot cards. She is now encouraging her followers to read the Bible, instead.

In a recent TikTok video, she surprised her nearly one million followers by announcing she was leaving behind the occult practice that had made her popular. Why? To everyone’s astonishment, she says she has become a follower of Jesus Christ.

Ashcroft, who built a large audience through tarot readings and spiritual sessions, posted a farewell video explaining that her decision had been months in the making.

“This hasn’t been an overnight change,” she said. “This has been a gradual journey that has slowly changed the way that I see my life and my faith.”

Over the past year, she said she had spent time praying, asking questions, and seeking to understand where God was leading her. The more she grew in her faith, the more convinced she became that she could no longer continue producing tarot content.

“I am not going to be offering any more readings or sessions,” she told viewers. “I’m not going to be creating any more tarot content.”

She also announced that her existing TikTok account would be deleted.

“What I do know,” she said, “is that Jesus Christ has saved my life and I can no longer ignore that reality.”

Rather than trying to reinvent her old platform, Ashcroft started over. She launched a new TikTok account dedicated to sharing Scripture and talking about her walk with Christ.

By the time her new account launched, nearly all of the videos that had made her popular were gone.

Instead of tarot readings, her first post opened by reading John 15:18: “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”

Ashcroft acknowledged that her decision had already generated criticism online.

“People have reached their own conclusions,” she said. “That’s not in my control. I know the truth, God knows the truth.”

She also shared that thinking on Jesus’ death gave her a fresh appreciation for what He endured. “We can hear that story so many times,” she said, “that we actually forget the depth and the reality of that.”

As she reflected on Christ’s suffering, she encouraged others who may be facing ridicule because of their faith. “Any mockery you face right now,” she said, “Jesus faced it.”

Occult practices may be especially visible during Halloween, but the spiritual hunger behind them exists all year long. Millions of people turn to tarot cards, astrology, psychic readings, crystals, and other New Age beliefs because they are searching for guidance, hope, and answers about the future.

Stories like Alexandra Ashcroft’s remind us that no one is beyond Christ’s reach. The same Saviour who rescued a woman immersed in tarot reading is still changing lives today.

Let’s use this Halloween season as an opportunity to lovingly point kids and adults away from spiritual counterfeits and toward Jesus Christ. Every gospel tract handed out, every conversation started, and every seed planted is an opportunity for someone who is searching to discover the truth that can truly set them free.
